15 FACTS TO KNOW ABOUT "EYO UYO"
(1) The real name of "Eyo Uyo" was Obong Effiong Okon Eyo.
(2) He died at the age of 65 years (1918 - 1983).
(3) Eyo Uyo was a Chief Whip in the Eastern House of Assembly in Enugu and a deputy Speaker House of Representative in Lagos.
(4) Eyo Uyo held the tribal bridge building title of 'Obong Ikpaisong Ibibio ye Annang.'
(5) He was the foremost Champion for the creation of Akwa Ibom State and a founding member of the Calabar - Ogoja - Rivers (COR) State movement.
(6) He was a Commissioner for Agriculture under Brigadier U. J. Esuene in the then South Eastern State.
(7) Eyo Uyo was from Mbierebe Akpawat Community in Ibesikpo Asutan LGA.
(8) He was a lawyer by profession.
(9) He also represented Uyo Constituency in the Eastern House of Assembly, Enugu under the NCNC from 1953 to 1958.
(10) He was a Chief Whip in the Eastern House of Assembly, Enugu, headed by Dr. Nnamdi Azikkwe.
(11) Eyo Uyo suggested the name "Akwa Ibom" as against "Kwa Iboe" the Irikefe panel report adopted.
(12) Eyo Uyo gave a blue print of what "Akwa Ibom State" should be like.
(13) He also proposed that Akwa Ibom State will consist of three ethnic groups of Ibibio, Annang and Oron
(14) Eyo Uyo proposed that Akwa Ibom State consist of ten LGA, of Oron, Eket, Etinan, Ikot Abasi, Ukanafun, Abak, Ikot Ekpene, Ikono, Itu and Uyo.
(15) At the Hard Struggle of death, Eyo Uyo handed over the Struggle for Akwa Ibom State to Bar. Anthony Amba Wills-Obong.
